Supplemental Sound is my personal archive of live music experiences. I write about the shows I go to when they're worth writing about. This isn't promotional content.
I go to concerts when the artist is worth the time and money. I write when the show needs more than just the memory. Most shows don't get written up here. Being selective keeps me from falling back into the overconsumption patterns that messed up my relationship with music before.
What This Isn't
No star ratings. No comprehensive photo galleries. No band promotion. No social media cross-posting. No weekly update schedule. No attempt to be a music journalism outlet.
What Exists Here
Concert write-ups when they're warranted. Thoughts on how live music fits into life. Occasional commentary on the live music experience itself. This is for me first.
How This Works Now
In 2026, I'll probably only go to 4-6 shows max. I only buy tickets for artists I genuinely want to see, not because of FOMO or cultural obligation. I don't drink at shows now. I take a few photos. Mostly I just watch. And enjoy.
I started this version after shutting down two previous music projects that weren't sustainable. The first was Reverb Radio (2003-2004), an internet radio station where I promoted independent bands. The second was this blog's original run (2021-2023), which turned into the same overconsumption problem it was supposed to fix.
