This Week in KC Music
Another solid week of shows across the metro, with some solid touring acts mixed in alongside our homegrown talent. Futurebirds swing through Wednesday at The Record Bar, while the weekend fills up fast with everything from disco parties to some harder-hitting names. Plenty to choose from if you're willing to venture out.
The pick of the week
Elmiene at The Truman on Saturday — a local artist getting their moment at one of KC's best independent venues. That's the kind of night worth marking on your calendar.

Scene notes
- A new live music venue called 515 Music Hub has opened at 515 Southwest Blvd. in the Crossroads Arts District. The space — formerly a pedicab company garage — is run by nonprofits KC Jazz ALIVE and Music Across Borders and is part of Kansas City's $1.6 million Open Doors! initiative to fill vacant storefronts and entertain FIFA World Cup visitors. Organizers say the venue is designed to prioritize listening over bar-style socializing, with performances spanning jazz, choral, classical, pop, and rock. (source)
- The Kansas City Jazz Orchestra announced its new 2026–2027 MILESTONES Signature Series, which includes a Halloween silent-film event (Nosferatu, 1922) scored live by KCJO artistic director Clint Ashlock at Tom's Town, a holiday swing special, and several other themed performances across the season. Local spotlight: Clint Ashlock
The Kansas City-raised trumpeter, bandleader, and KCJO artistic director has been hosting weekly 'New Jazz Order' big-band jam sessions at the newly opened 515 Music Hub in the Crossroads — informal, all-ages sight-reading meetups he describes as a relaxed way for players across generations to collaborate, and a living demonstration of KC's jazz continuum.
